Tigipko: Ukraine’s government not planning to restrict grain exports from Ukraine

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine did not consider a decision on restricting grain exports and it is not planning to take such a decision, the press service of the Social Policy Ministry has reported, referring to Vice Premier and Social Policy Minister Sergiy Tigipko.

“This is not a market measure, which does not strengthen the food security of the country and leads to direct losses for domestic agricultural producers. At present, global grain stocks are at a low level, and prices are growing. Our grain-growers should be given a chance to obtain a good reward for their labor,” the press service said, citing Tigipko.

He said that any restrictions of exports lower the investment attractiveness of Ukrainian agriculture, which needs a rapid development of infrastructure.

“We should not complicate the operation of Ukrainian agribusiness by additional non-market restrictions,” he said.

Earlier some media reports said, referring to Agricultural Policy and Food Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk that from November 15 ,2012 Ukraine plans to ban exports of wheat.
