Agricultural cooperation with China deepening

The memorandum of cooperation between the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, the Sino-Ukrainian Association for International Projects and the China National Corporation for Overseas Economic Cooperation in promoting bilateral investment cooperation and joint investment projects in agriculture was signed in Beijing on Wednesday, the UKRINFORM correspondent reported from China.

“The Chinese leadership attaches great importance to the relations with Ukraine,” China’s Deputy Agriculture Minister Zhu Baocheng said at the negotiations prior to the signing ceremony.

The Chinese official said that China and Ukraine, as two agrarian countries, are largely complementary, which is a huge potential for cooperation. He promised full support of the PRC Agriculture Ministry to the companies that will carry out projects in Ukraine.

For his part, the director of the Department of Foreign Relations of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, Kyrylo Klymenko, said that Ukraine selected a number of projects that would be implemented together with Chinese partners. They relate, in particular, to improving the effectiveness of seed materials (Ukraine is interested in using Chinese breeding technologies), the production of plant protection means and fertilizers. It is also planned to modernize the irrigation system in the south of Ukraine to provide water to 1.2 million hectares of land (its upgrade will make it possible to grow about 10 million tons of corn and soybeans annually). In addition, according to the import substitution program, it is planned to build at least 500 hectares of high-tech greenhouses that will provide year-round fresh fruits and vegetables not only for Ukrainian, but also for European consumers.
