Ukraine to introduce EU phytosanitary standards

Ukraine needs to implement the EU phytosanitary standards for free sale of agricultural products in Europe. This will be developed by the Twinning project, which should bring the Ukrainian legislation to the mentioned standards, ForUm says referring to the press service of the State Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service report.

Ukraine exports the agricultural products to 67 countries.

Therefore, non-fulfilment of the phytosanitary standards can greatly worsen ratings of the country. «Quarantine measures of the European Union should be implemented in Ukraine for both sellers and buyers to be sure of the quality of products,» the report says. In the first phase of the program, it is necessary to introduce so-called a directive 2000/29 in Ukraine.

It includes more than fifty categories of quarantine pests and diseases, which will not be taken in the EU. The local authorities of the State Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service should control this implementation.
