Lending to farmers grows by 1.5 billion UAH

From the beginning of 2013, domestic farmers were issued 7.3 billion hryvnia of loans, which is 1.2 times more than last year. Farmers sent these funds to spring sowing and harvesting campaigns, agricultural policy and food minister of Ukraine Mykola Prysiazhniuk said.

“The government strongly promotes increased funding for farmers, including through bank loans. Now farmers continue actively cooperating with commercial banks in the regions,” Prysiazhniuk noted.
As of July 19, farms took in banks 7.3 billion hryvnia, which is 1.2 times greater than over the corresponding period last year, when farmers raised 5.8 billion hryvnia. Overall, nearly two thousand farms took loans from banks.
According to the minister, farmers of Mykolayiv, Cherkasy, Ternopil, Vinnytsia, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Poltava regions are the most active in this direction.
“Farmers have proven to be responsible borrowers. Therefore, if necessary, the banks prolong loans taken during the past years,” the minister said.
