Lebanon planning to boost vegetable and fruit exports to Ukraine

Ukraine and Lebanon will strengthen cooperation in the agrarian sphere. In particular, the matter concerns boosting in supply of Lebanese vegetable and fruit products.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lebanon to Ukraine Youssef Sadaka has said about this at the Second International Exhibition “Fresh Produce Ukraine 2012,” which has just completed in Kyiv,” Latifundist informs.

“Currently, export of all Ukrainian products to Lebanon exceeded USD 800 million, and from Lebanon to Ukraine – approximately USD 1 million. Now, we want to strengthen cooperation in the agrarian sphere. In particular, the matter concerns expors of vegetables and olive oil from Lebanon,” the diplomat noted.

According to him, cooperation in the agrarian sphere will allow boosting mutual commodity turnover by another USD 1-2 million.

To confirm the abovementioned, Chairman of the Lebanese Tarshishko apple producers’ cooperative society said that the company is planning to enter the Ukrainian fruit market in 2013. Currently, the internal market is being studied and since next year the Scarlet sort apples will be supplied to Ukraine.

According to preliminary computations, the company is ready to supply 25,000-30,000 tons of apples from the new yield to Ukraine in 2013.
